FoRGe North 2019, North Dakota Mensa's 14th RG, was held August 2-4 in Grand Forks, at the Staybridge Suites.

We had over 20 attendees from 7 states including our Regional Vice Chair, Rich Olcott, of Denver Mensa.

Summary

Our Program began Friday morning with a tour of the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Site. Friday evening we were welcomed by the Mayor of Grand Forks, Michael Brown. After dinner, we toured the Grape Mill Vineyard and Winery and then enjoyed a private wine tasting event.

Saturday morning Regional Vice Chair, Rich Olcott, presented a Mensa Service Award to our RG Chair, Kris Zarns. Rich then conducted a Leadership Development Workshop (LDW) on 'The Nuts and Bolts of Mensa'. We then had three presentations. Brett McCutcheon-Vigil, our Treasurer, spoke on the 'Pathology of Bacteria'. Dr. Rebecca Simmons of the University of North Dakota department of Biology spoke on 'The Secret Lives of Moths'. Then Aaron Mooney spoke on 'Makerspace: the Store and Concept'.

After lunch we toured the Grand Forks Historical Society's Myra Museum, and gained a greater understanding of the origin of Grand Forks as well as its early history and living conditions. Returning to our hotel, we enjoyed a bit of conversation and hospitality, followed by dinner. Then we engaged in a spirited Pub Trivia session led by Kenya Maria Hitchens.

Sunday afternoon, we traveled to Fargo to attend a Red Hawks minor league baseball game. It was a fitting conclusion to a fine weekend.
